The TDAA’s 2006
Petit Prix is designed to provide a championship format suitable
for performance by dogs of small stature.
General Rules
The TDAA Rules and
Regulations currently in effect on the date of competition shall be
the recognized standard for rules for games and standard rounds. All
dogs must be registered with the TDAA in order to compete.
Eligibility
A dog shall be
deemed eligible if he has competed in a TDAA trial since the 2005
Petit Prix ( October 16, 2005 ). Dogs belonging to members of TDAA
are automatically eligible for competition in the Petit Prix.
Friday Agility Trial
An agility trial will be held on Friday
before the Tournament begins. Dogs that have never shown in TDAA
will be required to run these classes to be eligible for the
Semi-Finals. This round will include a standard course and one game
separated by level as in a regular Trial. All levels (Beginner,
Intermediate, Superior , Games I, Games II, and Games III ) will be
offered in the Friday rounds. Dogs already eligible for the
tournament may also compete in these classes and will be eligible
for placements and awards as in a regular TDAA trial. All
qualifying scores will count towards TDAA titles.
Semi-Finals Competition and Qualification Notes
All dogs, without
regard to competition level or titles earned, shall compete on the
same courses. All games and standard courses are eligible for dogs
to earn qualifying legs towards TDAA titles. Standard courses will
be judged under the TDAA Superior rules. Games will be judged under
TDAA Games III rules. However, the dog shall earn a qualifying score
only at the level for which he is eligible.
Semi-Finals Scoring
The semi-finals
shall include two standard course runs and four games. A dog shall
earn points for placement in his class in each of these
competitions, in this manner:
• 1st Place – 10 points
• 2nd Place – 7 points
• 3rd Place – 5 points
• 4th Place – 3 points
• 5th Place – 1 point
Placement points shall be accorded by jump height. The total of
these placement points from the six semi-final rounds will determine
which dogs progress to the championship round. The top 10 dogs from
each jump height in the Semi-Final rounds shall be eligible to play
in the final round with the stipulation that the dog must
have earned one or more points in the Semi-Finals.
The TDAA
Petit Prix Championship Round
The final round
shall be a standard run and a game. Placement points using the same
scale as for semi-final rounds will be awarded for the two
championship rounds. The dog with the accumulated points in each
jump height shall be deemed the winner and Agility Champion Teacup
Dog. The top 10 placements in each jump height will be recognized so
long as the dog has not earned a score of elimination in either of
the final rounds. The dog shall be eligible for a qualifying score
for titling purposes in the final round.
2006 Tournament Games
Complete Games rules and qualifying scores will be available at the
Tournament. A brief description of the games is included here. For
more comprehensive game descriptions look in The Clean Run Book
of Agility Games, second edition, author Bud Houston.
Las Vegas: This game was developed by Ilze Rukis. The
goal is to score as many points as possible in a set period of
time. Course is designed in 3 sequences with each sequence worth a
specific point value if completed without fault. Performing all 3
sequences, a “flush”, results in bonus points.
Snooker Scramble: Invented by Ken Tatsch for teams of
3 dogs/3 handlers on a course of 2 opening sequences and one closing
sequence. One dog/handler on a team does an opening sequence and
then gives the baton to next team member who does the second opening
sequence before passing the baton to the next team member who does
the closing sequence. The scramble results if a dog breaks/faults
in his sequence at which time another one of the team dogs must
intervene and complete that sequence.
Beat the Clock, Cuckoo Variation: This game is scored
points then time. The team starts in the center of the clock, does
first quarter of obstacles, performs center obstacles, does second
quarter of obstacles, etc. In the cuckoo variation credited to
Gordon Simmons-Moake, there is a 13th obstacle that may
be completed if there is time. Choosing to do the 13th
obstacle and not completing it in time has major negative impact on
the final score.
Black Hole: Invented by Ilze Rukis, the objective of
this game is to complete a course without incurring an off course
into a tunnel (dark hole), which ends the game. It is scored points
then time.
Double or Nothing: Initially developed by Sharon
Nelson, this game has been refined by Stuart Mah. It is similar to
a standard Gambler’s game except there are 2 gambles. After
completing one gamble, handler must declare intent to attempt (or
not) the second gamble which doubles score if successfully
completed. Scored points then time.
Group Choice: Invented by Marq and Rebecca Cheek.
The objective is to perform all obstacles as quickly as possible;
however, they must be performed in groups before going to the next
group. Scoring is done by deducting faults from a perfect score of
100 and followed by time.
Wild West Pinball: Ilze Rukis developed this game for
the first TDAA trial held by Petit Prix host club, JFF of Central
Illinois. The objective is to accumulate as many points as possible
with bonuses like “Gold Nuggets” and “Cowdog Cliffhanger.” Scored
points minus faults, then time.
